Establishment of the Clear Creek and Nellita Bluebird Trails

On Saturday March 19, 2011, Bob Wiltermood, and Scott and Susan Ford headed out to establish the last two bluebird trails PSBRP will be erecting this year--the Clear Creek Trail and the Nellita Trail.

Nestbox at Clear Creek Park
The members of the Clear Creek Task Force have been wonderfully supportive of our cause, and gave us permission to put up our nestboxes at Clear Creek Park in Silverdale.  Clear Creek Trail and Park is a beautiful natural habitat and preserve in Silverdale, WA that is maintained by volunteers of the task force.  The organization's mission is local conservation of our natural habitats, and they help promote and foster many educational programs for the community, like Salmon in the Classroom.

It was a clear sunny day at Clear Creek--a perfect day to establish our third bluebird trail.  Three boxes were put up at Clear Creek, away from the main through fares and trails of this popular park.  A great big thank you goes out to Tex Lewis, Mary Earl, and the members of the Clear Creek Task Force for giving us permission to put these boxes up in their park.    We highly recommend that you take a look at their web site for more information about this devoted group of volunteers at www.clearcreektrail.org

Area at Clear Creek Park where boxes were placed
After Clear Creek, we headed out to Nellita, to the home of Don and Barbara Seavy and their dog "Sariah".  The Seavys are both biologists and work at local colleges teaching biology.  Their home and property is nestled in the middle of acres of DNR (Department of Natural Resources) land.  The property is absolutely beautiful and pristine, and with the help of board member Bob Wiltermood, we were able to gain permission and access to this amazing piece of property.  Don and Barbara were wonderful hosts and gave us a tour of their property and the surrounding area with Sariah leading the way.  9 bluebird boxes were erected here on the Seavy's property, away from the hustle and bustle of surrounding towns.  It was a lot of work putting up all these boxes, but defintely work the time and effort!

Nestbox on Nellita Trail, ready to house Bluebirds!
So now all 20 bluebird boxes are up and ready for monitoring!  Keep checking this blog on a regular basis for up to date info on how the bluebird trails are doing.  A great big thank you to Bob Wiltermood, Don and Barbara Seavy, and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for helping make this trail a reality!
